Wizard Active Skills

Wizard Active Skills
Diablo 3 Wizard Active Skills
The first thing you should do is review the Wizard active skills available to you when you reach level 30 and decide how you’ll build your character. You might have a handful of different skill builds you choose from depending on how you play the game, so it’s important to have a good grasp of what all these skills provide and what you’ll gain from them in different circumstances.
Diablo 3 Wizard Active Skills – Signature
Signature skills are special in a few ways. First, you know them well by now – they are in almost every RGP on the planet and they therefore have very familiar impacts on your opponents. Second, as you level up, they cost less Arcane Power. So, by the time you reach Level 60, they all have an AP cost of 0. This is great for dealing constant, heavy damage to your opponents as you build Arcane Power for bigger attacks.
- Magic Missile
- Shock Pulse
- Spectral Blade
- Electrocute
Magic Missile is your first skill in the game and will serve you well for some time as an auto attack. I like Shock Pulse as well, while Spectral Blade is useless until you can get the right Runestones on it. Electrocute is interesting in that it jumps between enemies for chain hits, plus you cast it faster than a normal attack.
Diablo 3 Wizard Active Skills – Offensive
The ten options you have for Offensive skills all cost Arcane Power as you level and some of them will have cooldowns, but they are generally more powerful and have some interesting perks when the right Runestones are selected.
- Wave of Force
- ArcaneOrb
- Energy Twister
- Disintigrate
- Explosive Blast
- Hydra
- Ray of Frost
- Arcane Torrent
- Blizzard Meteor
One thing to keep in mind is that you want the skills that will provide the best results for your particular style of play; not the ones that seem the coolest. This is an easy trap to fall into if you’re not careful. So, which are the best? Wave of Power will be useful in the early going, though I like to spec with more AoE damage in mind, so Arcane Orb and Energy Twister are nice upgrades. Explosive Blast is incredibly cool too and it can be cast every second. Hydra would be cool except for its super high AP cost. Enemies can be slowed with Ray of Frost (very important in PvP) and Meteor, while costly, deals 305% weapon damage to enemies it hits in an AoE radius.
Diablo 3 Wizard Active Skills – Utility
With the fun stuff out of the way, there are 11 more skills that provide utility to the carefully played Wizard. These are defensive and support skills mostly, with a few exceptions. Here are your options:
- Frost Nova
- Ice Armor
- Magic Weapon
- Diamond Skin
- Storm Armor
- Mirror Image
- Slow Time
- Teleport
- Energy Armor
- Familiar
- Archon
Most builds will choose one good armor option for their character depending on your defensive and offensive needs. Other very useful skills like Mirror Image, Slow Time and Teleport actually make it very hard to choose which Wizard Active Skills you’ll spec into. Teleport in particular is a must in PvP while Slow Time will be huge for protecting yourself from projectile attacks from Demon Hunters and Wizards.
